Conservation of The Market Hall, Pembridge, Herefordshire.
Work to be carried out.
The roof will be stripped and any sound tiles re-used. New tiles, sourced from a local delph, will make up the shortfall and new and existing tiles will be mixed and fixed using new, air dried, tapered, cleft oak pegs.
Lime mortar will be introduced at the ridge to extend the life of the roof. Rafters will be repaired or replaced as appropriate with replacement rafters shaped to retain undulations in the existing roof structure. New oak finials will be made using the surviving elements to establish profile and scale.

Rafters, purlins and tie beams will be fully inspected when the roof is stripped. Some of the existing 1927 strapwork may be retained to show part of the historic development of the structure and repaired or replaced where necessary.
The timber posts which make up the structural frame will not be re-aligned. Any repairs will be restricted to the areas which threaten the structural integrity of the hall.
As identified in the 2003 archaeological dig, the earth floor is original. The aim is to retain the original floor and repair/reinstate where necessary. A cobbled zone at the perimeter will be introduced to encourage rainwater run off.
