Protecting the Scheduled Historic Buildings and Monuments of Pembridge. A Registered Charity No 1060265

Pembridge the Village - Pembridge has clearly seen many changes since its inception. The village pre-dates the Domesday book. A community has existed at this place for over 1000 years. At one point in its history the village exceeded Leominster in size and was an important centre of commerce during the mediaeval period. Following the Industrial Revolution, Pembridge appeared to "fall off the map" and economic activity declined. The village was left alone to continue its rural traditions in relative isolation and, as a consequence, much of its medieval character remained unspoiled.

New Project: Pembridge Amenity Trust Awarded Grant of £56,000 to continue investigations into the History Of Pembridge.

The project will commence in August 2003 and run through to December 2004 and will comprise of:

  1. Dendrochronology (timber dating) of houses within the village.
  2. Historical & archaeological research into Anglo-Saxon Pembridge
  3. Archaeological dig at Court Farm.

The Trust needs the help and co-operation of all residents. In the first case, access to houses selected for dendro dating. Secondly, anyone who has a burgage plot of known antiquity willing to allow archaeological investigation (trench). And thirdly, the dig at Court Farm will, on selected days, be open to the public (limited numbers) to participate (under supervision) in the dig.

Will anyone who has knowledge of Anglo-Saxon documents or artifacts relating to the village please contact Alan Bramwell on 388365.
