House Farm, Pembridge: An Archaeological Survey
(INCLUDING WORKS AT SCHEDULED ANCIENT MONUMENT 134)
Herefordshire
Archaeology Report No. 60, October 2002
Report

Tim Hoverd
EXTRACTS FROM THE REPORT
Significance
This report has highlighted the effectiveness of combining two
methods of archaeological survey. The earthwork survey recorded
features that could relate to buried structures and then the
geophysical survey enabled this to be confirmed. The presence
of a high status building within the moated area should of course
be expected but its location seems to confirm the findings of
the earthwork survey that the moat did not continue to Bearwood
Lane and has simply been infilled on its western side. The fact
that the geophysics results picked up possible wall lines indicates
that the site is well preserved and has not been significantly
truncated by garden activity and tree planting. |
